Alexis & Jesse – Engagement Session at The Art Museums & Downtown Fort WorthFort Worth, TX

Alexis and Jesse are so much fun and they are absolutely perfect for each other.  Jesse knew just what to say to get some giggles out of Alexis by whispering sweetly in her ear that she smelled like Chick-Fil-A.  I mean, there are worse things to smell like, right?  These two have known each other for most of their lives, so they know each other pretty well.  Alexis tells us in her own words about how they met and got together:

“Jesse and I have been together for two and half years, however I have known him since I was six. I met Jesse as a child when he moved in with my aunt to finish high school. It was not until three years ago when really reconnected when we were both in my cousin’s wedding. That night we talked all night at the rehearsal dinner and then went for drinks later which then lead to dancing all night long at a wedding the following day. Jesse and I dated a month before we became official, but that was easy because we were already attached at the hip.”

I loved getting to know these two and I am so excited to photograph their big day this November!

Kristen & Preston – Engagement Portraits at Waterfall and Art MuseumsFort Worth, TX

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kristen and Preston.  They are so incredibly precious and I had such a fun time getting to know them and their sweet pups!  Since Preston plays baseball, it gives them the opportunity to travel and go on little adventures to create great memories.  I love how they describe their relationship and how they spend their time together.

“While we are together during the baseball season, we love to find local places to eat as well as fun little trips to trails or beaches. At home in Fort Worth we still spend a lot of time going to our favorite spots to eat and fostering dogs. I did not grow up with dogs in my house so I used to have kind of a superficial understand of dogs and their behavior (good or bad). But now through the work we do and the dogs we meet, I see lots of dogs that open up and love life in the right situation.
We have been to Cabo, Breckenridge, and a cruise through the Caribbean for vacations!” -Preston

“I agree with everything Preston said! I have traveled to over 12 states watching Preston play baseball so we have gotten really good at Yelp. We have found so many fun little places to adventure to. Those are some of the best memories I have with him. We took our dogs to the beach in Michigan one summer. Looking back on it, it is so random but that is what minor league life gives you on an off day. When we are in Fort Worth, Preston is incredible about helping me follow my life long dream to help rescue homeless dogs. He supports the dogs and me in so many ways. He is the best foster dad! We also love a good night with all our dogs, netflix, and a bottle of wine!” – Kristen

I am so excited for their wedding in November.  It is sure to be absolutely amazing!

Lindsey & Matt – Engagement Session at The Dallas Arboretum and Winspear Opera HouseDallas, TX

Lindsey and Matt are so cute together!  I had so much fun hanging out with them and their sweet dog, Bear, at their engagement session.  Lindsey and Matt met at TCU and are big Horned Frog fans.  I love how Matt incorporated all of that into his proposal.  Here is their story in Lindsey’s own words:

“Matt did a wonderful job of surprising me! Since TCU is so close to our hearts, Matt planned the perfect proposal at Frog Fountain. Two of our friends from law school, Sanju and Olivia, came in to visit us to go to a baseball game on the weekend of Cinco de Mayo, 2017. On May 6th, we drove out to Fort Worth and had breakfast at Fuzzy’s before the game. We took them on “a tour” around campus on our walk over to the baseball stadium, right by Frog Fountain. All of a sudden Matt was down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was magical… and I was completely surprised!!! We then went to the baseball game, where I was again surprised that we were going to participate in the first pitch, and that Matt had gotten all of our friends and family to come meet us and join in the celebration and cheer on the frogs at the game! We continued our celebration at dinner with family and close friends (many of which had come from out of town) and after dinner drinks at Nylo. It was truly the perfect day”

I am so excited for their big day which will also be at Robert Carr at TCU!  Go Frogs!

Celine & Wesley Engagement – Dallas Arboretum & White Rock LakeDallas, TX

These two made the drive from west Texas to do this morning session!  We went to the Dallas Arboretum and White Rock Lake for some nature which is perfect since they will be saying “I Do” at the Texas Discovery Garden.   These two met at Texas Tech and wore their jersey’s for the second part of their session.  How fun!  Check out some of my favorite moments from their session!

Lindsay and Keith – Engagement Portraits at Japanese Gardens and Kimbell Art MuseumFort Worth, TX

I love it when couples are not shy or afraid to be themselves in front of the camera!  It’s a hard thing to do but Lindsay and Keith nailed it!  They currently live in New York City but are getting married here in Fort Worth so we had a chance to do their engagement photos while they were in town.  I love that Keith wore the same suit that he wore on their first date.  I think it makes the photos that much more meaningful.  Lindsay and Keith cracked me up.  It is always a blast when we can all just joke around and laugh together, like when I caught Keith smelling Lindsay’s hair which is apparently an inside joke that has to do with one of their first dates.  I don’t know that I’m going to be able to let go of that one and will probably mention it and use it on their wedding day haha!  I am so excited for their big day in December.  It is going to be so much fun! Please enjoy some of my favorites from their Fort Worth engagement session.

Jess and Bobby – Engagement Session at Globe Life ParkArlington, TX

ATTENTION ALL BASEBALL FANS!!!  It is finally baseball season and with Jess and Bobby there was no other place than the Texas Rangers Stadium (Globe Life Park) for their engagement portraits.  Bobby proposed to Jess during a tour of the stadium, so I loved that they wanted to have their photos done there.  Being a big baseball fan myself, this was such a treat!  Not only are Jess and Bobby big Rangers fans, but they are the sweetest and kindest people! They are so much fun to be around and we had a blast hanging out around the empty stadium.  Our tour guide, Dick, also provided us with a fun time, a little Rangers history and added entertainment!  If you haven’t taken a tour, you definitely should!  I think the ballpark might be one of my favorite places to photograph.  Congratulations to Jess and Bobby!  Hope to you see you at a game soon! (Also, a special shout out to the tour coordinator, Billie, at the ball park!  She was absolutely wonderful to work with!)

Annie & Josh are Engaged – Proposal PhotographyFort Worth, Texas

I love documenting proposals, there is nothing like the surprise and secrecy of waiting for that moment when he FINALLY goes to one knee  and out comes the ring – the tears, the laughter, the YES!!!!  This proposal was super near and dear to my heart though – this lovely bride to be is our very own Annie – my associate photographer and dear friend.  When I heard the whispers of the proposal and their coming engagement I knew that Amanda and I had to be a part of this very special day.  A little message on Facebook to Josh led to us helping document this emotionally charged proposal and doing some sneaking around to make sure Annie looked gorgeous.  I was so tricky I even had a reason for her to have her makeup professionally done by Fallon Farmer with Love & Pout Makeup and made sure she was super fancy!

Along with Thirteen Media we followed Annie on and adventure around Fort Worth where she visited spots that were tied into Josh & Annie’s courting and at each spot she had a surprise!  Josh is a big hearted guy (I am really super happy he is marrying my girl – I am in tears writing this!!!) and he exposed all of his softness for this day.  Not only did he take her on a scavenger hunt but at each location he had a married couple that they are friends with there to greet her, give her a gift and ask her a question.  Before hand Josh had Thirteen Media record him answering the same questions.  It was pretty freakin sweet and romantic!!  If you like crying happy tears for someone you don’t even know – you have been warned – watch the video below!  Our photos show the fun and the emotion and the highlights but the video that Thirteen Media created along side us really reveals the love that Annie & Josh have for each other, the Lord and their community.

I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation to watch my Annie marry Josh on April 30th!  Love you guys and congrats!!!!

WHAT TO WEAR - ENGAGEMENT PORTRAITSFAQ

Wondering what to wear for your engagement portraits?  It is one of the most difficult challenges when it comes time to step in front of the camera.  Here are some of our tips and tricks to make sure your outfits look flattering and visually interesting.
One of our favorite things is when our clients are not afraid to layer clothing in males and females. Layering offers an additional dimension, definition of your body shape and interest to your photos.

Make sure you are dressing appropriately for the season in which your photos are taken. If it is winter, layer up! If it is summer dress in lighter clothing. It may be wise for men to avoid long sleeves and suit jackets during summer months. If weather is expected to be hot bring along extra clothes in case you perspire and stain your clothing, it’s always good to have back up’s!

We encourage our clients not be afraid of bright colors or patterns. If you love patterns and bright colors EMBRACE IT!!!  You can always mix a bright with a neutral if you are afraid of all over color.

Make sure the colors you are wear are complimentary but not matching. We warn against wearing white shirts and jeans or something to that liking as we prefer you not end up on an awkward family photo blog!

If you are going to buy new clothes make sure you buy silhouettes that you know flatter your body. We suggest staying away from the loose clothing. An outfit that is tailored or cinched and emphasizes the smalls part of your waist is always flattering.

When in doubt, go with what you love!  Wear things that make you feel pretty and are complimented by your friends.  We love this quote by one of our REAL brides:
“Like most brides, I did tons of research and read lots articles about what to wear for your engagement session. When the time came to pick an outfit, I threw the advice out the window and did what I thought would be best. I was sadly mistaken. The best advice I can give you is to dress like the girl your fiance fell in love with. He didn’t fall in love with a picture in a magazine. Wear what you know looks good on you, not someone else. Don’t use this time to break out new styles or trends. Be YOU.”
-Heather
So get to shopping, raid your own closet and start planning your engagement portrait outfits!  When in doubt reach out to us for help by shooting us over some photos of the looks you are considering.  Remember that you will need 2 outfits for a 2 hour session and 1 outfit for a 1 hour or mini shoot.  For further ideas and inspiration see our Pinterest board of engagement photos.

Melissa & Carl Engagement at Times Ten Cellar, Downtown Fort Worth, & Trinity Park

Over St. Patrick’s weekend I met up with Melissa & Carl at Times Ten Cellar where they will be having their reception in May. I had so much fun getting to know them over a glass of wine.  We went to many places that are significant in their relationship. We strolled by what used to be 8.0 where they met and went to the wall where Carl proposed to Melissa. Here are some of my favorites from their Fort Worth engagement session.
