One of the greatest joys in photography is continuing to document a family’s story long after the wedding day. Blair’s one-year portrait session in the Lightly studio was especially meaningful because her parents were past wedding clients, making this milestone celebration even more special to capture.
One-year sessions are such a fun stage. Babies are full of personality, curiosity, and smiles—and it’s the perfect time to document this exciting season before toddlerhood fully takes over.
For Blair’s session, we combined family portraits, classic one-year photos, and a playful smash cake moment. Starting with family images allows everyone to relax into the session while capturing beautiful portraits that parents will treasure for years. These images celebrate not just the baby’s milestone, but the love and connection that has grown within the family over the past year.
The studio setting keeps the experience simple and comfortable. With soft lighting and a clean background, the focus stays on Blair’s expressions and the joyful interactions between her and her parents.
Of course, the highlight of many one-year sessions is the smash cake. Watching little ones explore their cake—sometimes carefully and sometimes enthusiastically—creates some of the most genuine and memorable photos of the session.
It’s always an honor when couples invite us back to photograph the next chapters of their story. Blair’s first birthday session was a sweet reminder of how meaningful it is to continue documenting families as they grow.
