One of the most common questions we are asked, especially during the holiday season, is when should we schedule engagement photos? While there’s no hard and fast rule, there are a few questions to ask yourselves that can help determine the best time to take your engagement photos.
1.) Do you need images for your save-the-dates?
If so, you’ll want to schedule your photo session 7 – 8 months out, since Save-the-Dates should generally be mailed out about 6 months from the wedding date, though potentially longer if you’re planning a destination wedding.
2.) Is there a certain time of year you love, or that’s significant to the two of you?
For instance, if you got engaged around the holidays, a December session could be a great time to take advantage of the twinkle lights put up around the city, and the general look and feel of a cozy session during the cold winter months. Love the colors of fall? Autumn engagement sessions are always a good idea. On the other hand, if you’re beach bums through and through, late spring or early summer could be ideal for a session that reflects your style and taste!
Just keep in mind the worst heat of summer or frigid cold isn’t going to be ideal for anyone to be photographed… unless you’re interested in an indoor session.
3.) What locations do you have in mind? We love helping find spots that reflect your interests and your unique love story, whether that includes a local park you frequent with your pup, a weekly date night spot, or even the campus where you met. Some locations will look similar year round, such as the highly manicured Dallas Arboretum or Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, while others can look vastly different from season-to-season.
Once we know a bit about your taste, and temperature preferences, we can help schedule a session that suits you well, and that you’ll love looking back on year after year.
