Planning the Perfect, Mostly Stress-Free Proposal

Grant & Avery

Private Residence and The Rustic in Dallas, Texas

We absolutely love getting to be there when a girlfriend becomes a fiancé, so we were very happy when Grant reached out to us to have us photograph his proposal to Avery.

While I imagine planning a proposal can be pretty stressful – especially when trying to keep it a total surprise – there were a few things Grant did that worked out perfectly for a beautiful moment Avery will remember forever, without totally clueing her in what was coming.

First, he enlisted help, namely from his Mom, who helped transform their family backyard (which happened to be under construction at the time) into a private oasis complete with a custom floor sign, that said “Will you marry me?”

Help is pretty much essential if you want beautiful details and for the proposal itself to be as stress-free as possible. If you don’t have a helpful mom who lives nearby with a great eye for design, you can hire an event planner to tackle all the details. ** We happen to know some great ones, so reach out if you would like to find a planner for your proposal!**

Second, he told Avery they were going to have dinner with his family that night, after driving by to check on the construction. Having an actual mission, and reason to dress up, without it feeling too out of the ordinary allowed her to show up looking cute, while maintaining the surprise. Asking a friend to low-key invite her for a girls’ day and manicures beforehand is also a great idea. She’s going to be showing off that bling, soon!

And finally, he planned (with help from both their families) an engagement party following the proposal at a favorite date night spot of theirs. Again, his mom helped set up some beautiful floral arrangements beforehand, and friends even brought a handmade sign to make everything extra festive.

When they arrived to the party, after sharing some celebratory bubbly, there were lots of hugs and happy tears, and plenty of chances for them to be toasted by loved ones, so happy to celebrate this next chapter for the lovely couple!
