Mary Lea + Thornton | Wedding Ceremony at Highland Park United Methodist Church – Dallas, TX

Did you know that where you choose to get ready on your wedding day can have an impact on what your photos look like? Being mindful of your getting ready locations can make all the difference. If your ceremony or reception venues have a bridal suite for you, it may seem like a no-brainer to just use those rooms. But not all bridal suites are created equal. Some are large with beautiful window light and plenty of places for your bridal party to sit and be comfortable and some seem a little bit more like a broom cupboard – dark, small and cramped. And though some of us may love The Boy Who Lived, your wedding day is not the day to be crammed in a room under the stairs like Harry Potter. If you know that your venue has a bridal room that leaves something to be desired, then you might consider choosing a nearby hotel or an Air BnB rental. Maybe your childhood home or the home of a friend is an option. This can be a meaningful and sentimental experience, to get ready for your wedding in where you grew up. In any case, it is always going to make for better pictures when you have great natural light (lots of windows) and a clean and open space. In Mary Lea’s case, she did a combination of the two. She was able to have her hair and makeup done at home but then changed into her dress in the bridal suite at the church. Both were excellent options and made the perfect backdrops for her getting ready photos.
